With every project, our goal is the same: deliver dependable workmanship and long-lasting exterior results. From roof inspections to full siding replacements, our team is here to help.
Roofs in Platteville endure a wide range of weather stressors. The area sees summer highs around 85°F and winter lows dipping below 10°F, putting strain on materials year-round. Heat expansion, freeze-thaw cycles, and moisture retention are all factors that accelerate wear and tear. In high-humidity months, poorly ventilated attics can trap moisture and lead to mold or rot. These local weather patterns make proactive roofing inspections a smart move for homeowners throughout the year.
Spring in southern Wisconsin often brings heavy rain and wind, which can lift shingles or expose weak flashing. In winter, snow accumulation and ice dams are a real threat, especially on older or poorly sloped roofs. These seasonal swings create pressure points that weaken roofing systems over time. In Platteville, hail events also spike in late spring and early summer, increasing the risk of unseen structural damage. This is why storm repair and resilient materials are a key focus in our service offerings.
We often recommend architectural shingles or metal roofing in this region, which perform better under both intense sun and heavy snowfall. By accounting for temperature fluctuations and common weather events, we help homeowners avoid emergency repairs down the line. Local insight makes a difference when evaluating materials and estimating lifespan.
Much of the housing in Platteville dates back to the mid-20th century, with many roofs now approaching the end of their service life. The average asphalt roof lasts about 20 to 25 years, but with Platteville’s extreme seasons, degradation can occur sooner if maintenance is skipped. Older neighborhoods like Pine Street or Harrison Park often feature original roofs or outdated ventilation systems that no longer meet modern energy standards.
As homes age, leaks, ventilation problems, and insulation issues often start to appear together. This is where a full roofing and siding inspection can identify underlying problems early. Whether you’re looking to sell or stay long-term, modern roofing upgrades can add both protection and value to your home investment.
Consistent roof maintenance is the best way to prevent costly surprises. In a city like Platteville, where each season brings distinct weather concerns, timing your upkeep matters. Spring and fall are the best seasons to schedule inspections and minor repairs. During these transitional months, it’s easier to spot damage from winter storms or prep your roof for summer UV exposure.
During winter, snow buildup and ice dams are two of the most damaging issues homeowners face. Blocked gutters, poor attic ventilation, and older shingles can all contribute to ice damming, which causes water to back up under the roof. Once spring arrives, melting snow often reveals cracked flashing, missing shingles, or clogged drainage systems. If these go unaddressed, moisture can seep into the home’s structure.
Having your roof inspected after each winter helps ensure that small issues don’t escalate. We recommend clearing debris from gutters, checking for mold in attics, and evaluating ventilation levels as part of early spring maintenance. These steps are especially important for homes with multiple roof pitches or skylights.
In summer, UV rays and heat can warp shingles or dry out sealants, especially on south-facing roofs. For homes with poor attic airflow, this heat can also raise indoor temperatures and increase energy costs. Prepping your roof in summer includes checking vents, resealing around flashing, and replacing any curling shingles.
Fall is the ideal time to clean gutters, trim overhanging branches, and confirm that your roofing system is ready for another harsh winter. Many homeowners schedule inspections in early October to beat the snow. By planning ahead, you give your roof a stronger chance of withstanding the first freeze without issues.
Moving on to the spring and getting our new roof and gutters installed and completed, my wife and I are extremely pleased with the work that Heinz Contracting said they would do. Again, it’s all really a massive heart felt “THANK YOU” to the talents of Adam, Brandon and their crew. I would never tell you what to do, but I will ask, if you are looking for a contractor to help you through a process, where it seems difficult to choose, please reach out to Adam and Brandon of Heinz Contracting before you make your choice. Heinz Contracting followed through with what they said they would do!
We had an amazing experience with them for our condo association’s full roof replacement across all four buildings. From start to finish, they were professional, efficient, and always kept us in the loop. They helped coordinate the work smoothly with our residents, ensuring minimal disruption. Bryan the owner personally confirmed that everything was cleaned up afterwards and came back again after some of our owners noticed some minor debris left behind.
Overall, we couldn’t be happier with the results. We would strongly recommend Hiens Contracting to the owners of our association and to anyone else in our community looking for high-quality roofing work.
Thank you Bryan and the entire Heins Team!!!
Derek was great to work with and promptly answered all of our questions throughout the whole process, from estimate to completion. Their crews’ quality of work and attention to detail were amazing and the project was completed quickly. Follow-up details were addressed without issue and our satisfaction seemed to be truly valued.
We will definitely be reaching out again for future projects!
10/10 would highly recommend!!!
DJ was equally prompt and courteous in adjusting the final balance when I brought this to his attention.
A good experience all around.
Sincerely Steve Chadderdon
That was not the case with Heins Contracting. Brandon took the time to explain all the little details and even went over the estimate with us so that we understood exactly what was going to be done. Brandon even offered to be here when our insurance adjuster came. He also was on vacation and was reaching out to us to make sure someone delivered the samples and asking if we found something we liked. Brandon went above and beyond to find the shingles we wanted after we were told they might not be available. The crews that came were fantastic and friendly. Extremely professional and kind. We absolutely love our new roof and gutters. I will be recommending them to anyone and everyone. Thank you Brandon and the rest of the Heins crew for being so great. We are so happy with the work you did.
roof and I am having new windows installed. I would strongly recommend this company for your construction needs.
Price was very competitive and workmanship first rate. Would hire them again (but hope I don’t have to…).

They made me feel comfortable right away. They truly care about what they do you can see it when you talk with anyone of them. I don’t know if I should say this, but the even did the fascia, soffits, and gutter FREE!!!😳 That’s right I said free!!This was the best experience I’ve ever had from any company that I have ever dealt with. Heins Contracting is what America should be in the industry. Thank you guys so much for honering my grandfather as a veteran. What you did for him was the best surprise In his life. He still talks about you guys. If these guys stayed any longer they probably would have mowed my yard, painted my house, and taken out the trash. They truly care. I hope the best for HEINS CONTRACTING. You’ll see how awesome they are when you hire the family.

They weren’t the cheapest, but they were the right choice for us.
I talked to 11 different roofing & siding companies before deciding on Heins and I’m glad I did. They were one of the few installers that weren’t pushy or didn’t ignore us altogether.
We considered replacing the siding too, but we only bought the place a couple years ago and they determined it was only a few years older than that. Several of the other companies we talked to tried to convince us we needed new siding.
Bryan and his team were knowledgeable, patient and professional.
The estimate and inspection process was quick and comprehensive.
We changed our minds a few times and they were able to answer all of our questions promptly and made sure we understood what needed to be done, why and what everything would cost.
Unlike a number of other roofers in town, they use a variety of different roofing brands and I was able to upgrade our roof for just a little bit more.
They replaced our gutters with top of the line leaf guards for less than what professional gutter companies charge.
On installation day, everything was delivered with notice and on time.
The installation team was fast, courteous & meticulous. Everything was done in a day or so and still cost thousands less than the other companies we considered. Everything is under warranty and they’ve been around long enough to stand by it.
Our window experience was just as good. There were some supply issues, so we had to order them a while in advance, but when they arrived, we scheduled our installation within a week. Installation only took a day and with our insulated windows, we were finally able to use our sun room during the winter!
I’d recommend Heins for roofing, siding or windows in a heartbeat and I’ve told all of our neighbors about them.
They have been informative and responsive throughout the entire process.
Thank You to the whole team for going above and beyond the expected!!

Roofing costs in Platteville vary based on material choice, roof pitch, and the square footage of your home. For asphalt shingle roofs, which remain the most common choice in the area, homeowners can expect to pay between $8,000 and $14,000 for a full replacement. Metal roofing typically costs more up front, but offers better long-term durability. Local labor rates and permit fees also affect the final cost, particularly for homes with complex rooflines.
The size and slope of your roof significantly impact pricing. Steeper or more intricate roof structures require additional labor and materials. Tear-off costs, ventilation upgrades, and underlayment quality can also raise the total. Choosing energy-efficient or impact-resistant shingles may cost more upfront but reduce the chance of future repairs. In Platteville, it’s also smart to factor in weather resistance—hail-rated shingles or added attic insulation can be a worthwhile investment.
Insurance can also play a role if your roof has experienced storm damage. We often assist homeowners with documentation and inspections to help streamline their claim process. Understanding what’s covered—and what isn’t—helps avoid surprises during the repair or replacement phase.
Budgeting realistically for a roof means planning for both the immediate cost and long-term value. Minor repairs might cost a few hundred dollars, but if the roof is 15–20 years old, a full replacement may be more cost-effective. We advise homeowners to consider lifespan, energy savings, and warranty coverage when comparing quotes.
If you’re unsure where to start, a no-obligation inspection and estimate can help clarify the scope and pricing for your specific property. Our team at Heins Contracting is happy to provide a transparent breakdown tailored to your home’s needs.

Platteville winters are known for subzero temperatures and frequent snowfall, which can lead to ice damming and structural stress on aging roofs. Over time, these conditions can cause shingles to crack, gutters to detach, and attic ventilation to suffer, especially if the roof isn’t properly insulated or maintained.
Yes. Architectural asphalt shingles and metal roofing are both excellent choices for Platteville homes. They hold up well against summer heat, spring rain, and winter snow loads. Metal roofs in particular resist ice damage and are less likely to warp or crack in extreme temperatures.
Given the area’s harsh seasonal changes, it’s smart to schedule roof inspections twice a year, once in spring to check for winter damage, and once in fall to prepare for snow and ice. Homes with older roofs or past storm damage may benefit from more frequent checks.
In neighborhoods like Old Hill or near the university, many homes were built in the mid-1900s. If these roofs haven’t been replaced in the last 20–25 years, they’re likely nearing the end of their useful life, especially if exposed to repeated freeze-thaw cycles without regular upkeep.
